Solitaire Lodge

Solitaire has perfect location. Probably the best in the region for visiting Sossusvlei/Deadvlei within 1 hour (to the gate) for very reasonable price (lodges nearby Sesriem are quite expensive for us). The place is stylish with big rooms, hot water, wifi and beautiful cactus garden with fresh swimming pool in the middle. Bonus is the gas station at the gate of lodge, but the peace of cake is the best apple pie from local bakery (opens very early in the morning). The pie is a must! Restaurant has pretty good choice of meals for dinner, breakfast is very good standard.

Spacious room with large comfy beds. Territory and facilities are clean, beatiful and relaxing. Good breakfast and amaxing apple pie in the bakery next door.

The room was a bit dark, the light was needed during the day time. But perhaps it is for reason.

We had a fantastic experience at Solitaire Lodge during our overnight stay. The rooms were exceptional and cozy, and the freshly prepared breakfast packed to go was a delightful touch. The restaurant's delicious food and top-notch cookies added to the overall satisfaction. We're definitely planning to stay there again in the future.

The property is much nicer than it looks from the road: the rooms are very nice, the landscaping is fabulous, and the staff is friendly and efficient. We really enjoyed the pool and the meals (dinner and breakfast). While the location is a bit more remote from the Sossusvlei park gate, it is considerably more affordable than those nearer the park. Before dinner, we had a chance to take a tour of the Cheetah Sanctuary. About 60-90 min long, the tour got us close to the five cheetahs (siblings orphaned relatively young). While petting the animals is not an option (at least for those of us who lived to write reviews), the tour gets close to the cats and is very informative. The cats are used to visitors, but still wild. Watching them from 10 feet away, from the safety of the safari vehicle, but with no obstacles in between is awesome.

It is a wonderful place to relax and switch off. Very lovingly designed. The pool is small but perfectly adequate for cooling off. The waitress Queen was the best waitress you can imagine.

Atmosphere and character.

We were the only guests on the first night , a lot of effort was put in to keep the kitchen open for our dinner.

Cold water tap in shower was stuck in room 21 . Needed water pump pliers to open it . It was reported , hope something was done about it .

We liked the rain in the desert!! Bakery apple pie to die for and sunsets unbelievable!! Food a nice variety with a great breakfast. a Real oasis in the desert.

Friendliness of personnel, willingness to assist and to accommodate requests. Hiking routes very nice to have, same for sunset view point Location excellent, which is why I decided to stay with this journey! Looking forward to spending time in the new boma being constructed!

The shower in our room suddenly went ice cold early on the morning we were about to leave. This was just after my wife enjoyed a hot shower. We could not shower, which created some discomfort. Also, I would like to comment on general appearance of the lodge: 1) I took a peak into the camping site's ablution facilities. The door to the male section did not work, and appeared in need of some maintenance. Inside, it appeared like birds enjoy first priority. 2) I was following a bird and eventually found myself at the back of the establishment, behind the fuel station. From the other side there is a No Entry sign, so the public then not suppose to wander there. Nevertheless, it looked dirty, with rubbish strewn at some places with little consideration for the environment. This is a problem I find with many establishments and I would suggest a nice and clean environment overall creates a much more positive experience.

A very good lodge, however the service level could be improved. Staff absolutely not helpful or friendly. Someone needs to look into this to make this otherwise nice place even more nice
